Cycling Rules

 

  • Bikes are vehicles and cyclists have to obey road rules.

  • Cyclists are allowed to ride two abreast no more than 1.5m apart

  • Travelling to the front of a line of traffic on the left hand side of the stopped vehicles.

  • Cyclists are allowed to take up a whole lane - riding in the gutter is dangerous

  • Cycling on footpaths is allowed if a cyclist is less than 12 years.
    This does not apply to footpaths that have a sign forbidding cycling.

  • An adult who is riding in a supervisory capacity of a cyclist under 12 years of age may also ride on the footpath

  • Bikes must have a bell or horn Helmets are compulsory for all riders and passengers

  • Bikes must have a white light on the front and red light on the rear for night riding.
