| The Shiralee Royal Hotel Binnaway is situated
on the main intersection of Bullinda and Renshaw Streets. This ensures
that those travelling from any direction (Coolah, Dubbo or Purlewaugh)
can not miss this classic example of a federation building.
Built just prior to the end of the First World War, the hotel’s
dedication was delayed to 1918 until the diggers returned from the
trenches. Early photos of the building show that the facade of the
hotel has not been altered significantly over the last century,
although a major addition occurred in the 1940’s- The soutern
end of the building was added to allow for more accomodation rooms.
More recently, the exterior walls were cement rendered giving the
building a new lease of life. The addition of a beer garden that
fronts Renshaw Street, as well as interior modifications has made
the hotel more family orientated and a welcome place for the traveller
to break their journey.
In 1956, the filming of the classic movie “The Shiralee”
in and around Binnaway included many scenes centred on the hotel.
With an international cast that included Peter Finch and Bud Tingwell,
“The Shiralee” certainly provided Binnaway locals with
a sense of importance and excitement. There are many photos of the
movie displayed inside the hotel and you are welcome to pop into
the bar to view them on your way through town.
The hotel has a well stocked bar with four beer varieties on tap
and a large variety of spirits and takeaways for your convenience.
If you're hungry hot snacks are available anytime or perhaps you’d
just like to relax over a game of pool or maybe chat with the many
colourful locals that frequent this popular hotel – commonly
referred to as “The Top Hotel”.
The “Shiralee Royal Hotel” is a family owned and operated
business, where the licensee Joanne Reedman and her family will ensure
your visit is comfortable and enjoyable. So don’t drive on
past, pop in for a ‘coldie’ and a chat anytime.
